Will I always know if I have an STI?

No. Some men with gonorrhea do not show symptoms. Gonorrhea symptoms in women are often mild, though many women who are infected do not show symptoms. Chlamydia doesn’t show symptoms in about 75% of infected women and 50% of infected men. The only way to know your status for sure is to be tested.

If I have unprotected sex on a Saturday, can I come into Healthfirst for accurate testing on Monday?

You can come in for testing at any time, but it is important to know that it can take weeks from the time of exposure for symptoms to occur or for a test to return positive.  It is considered best practice to get tested for STIs at least two weeks after a potential exposure. 

Does Healthfirst provide abortion services?

Healthfirst does not provide abortion services. Healthfirst provides all-options pregnancy education and supports the right of the client to make her own decision based on her situation. Healthfirst staff may not make abortion referrals.

Are Healthfirst services just for women?

Healthfirst provides screening for Sexually Transmitted Infections (STIs) and HIV/AIDS testing for both men and women. We are able to enroll eligible Wisconsin residents in the Wisconsin Family Planning Only Services (FPOS) program. This program covers the costs of STI screening and treatment as well as HIV/AIDS testing. Costs of condoms are covered under the FPOS program.

What methods of birth control are available at Healthfirst?

Healthfirst provides FDA approved reversible birth control methods. These include: hormonal methods such as the birth control pill, patch, ring, shot, implant and emergency contraception. Healthfirst carries many non-hormonal and over-the-counter birth control methods and we also provide Natural Family Planning education and instruction. Emergency Contraception is available over-the-counter for adults and by prescriptions for those under age 17. Healthfirst can provide education about permanent birth control methods, and can direct people to local providers.

I understand my services at Healthfirst are confidential. Is any of my information ever reported to other agencies?

Positive STI information is reported to the local health department as mandated by law. These results remain confidential.

Non-identifying statistics are reported to state health departments for statistical purposes only. (Such as the number of pregnancy tests provided and the percentage of those tests that were positive.)

Does Healthfirst report sexual assault?

a. Healthfirst is a mandatory reporter of sexual assault and abuse of those under 18

b. For those over 18, Healthfirst will assist clients who want to report sexual abuse or assault

Do I need to come in with a parent if I am under 18 years old?

No if you are under 18 a parent does not need to come with.  Healthfirst is a confidential clinic, so records will only be shared with those that you authorize us to share with.
